Sustainability and Environmental Policy, August 2024
1. OUR PLEDGE
We Love Fest are committed to reducing the environmental impact of our events and to limiting waste produced as a direct result of them. It is a requirement for all traders working with us to adhere to this policy.
2. TRADERS GUIDELINES
We provide the following standards and guidelines to our traders at any event.
The use of single use plastic is not permitted, including plastic straws, bags or polystyrene cups.
Please pay attention to on-site recycling facilities and separate all waste into general waste, food waste, and recyclable products, or as per bins provided.
We encourage all personnel to ‘think local’ in terms of supplies, equipment, and staff.
Please switch off any electrical equipment/lights, when not in use.
Use sustainable/recyclable materials and equipment that are in-keeping with the other Festival rules set out in this Guide.
Ensure equipment used on site is rated for efficiency, and priority is given to energy-efficient equipment.
Fairtrade products are encouraged to be used where available.
No generators will be allowed that haven’t been provided by the Festival, except for solar-powered units, which we are happy to allow.
All wood must be food-grade FSC certified. If you need assistance on sourcing food-grade FSC certified wood please contact a member of our team.
No glass to be used in public areas; if reusable plastic containers are being used in public areas, they must be shatterproof.
We recommended that all refuse sacks used throughout the site are biodegradable.
All food and drink stalls are encouraged to only use 100% compostable cups and cutlery, so they can be disposed of with the organic food waste. Two possible options are:
Biopac www.biopac.co.uk
Vegware www.vegware.com
We ask all traders to try and eliminate materials being brought onto site which are subsequently going to be treated as waste. This includes unpacking as much as possible before coming onsite, especially excess cardboard and plastic etc.
All traders (unless otherwise agreed with Us) are required to offer vegetarian and vegan alternatives on their menus.
All coffee traders are required to offer a dairy free milk alternative.
At certain events we work with local food banks – we encourage food traders to donate surplus food to them at the end of the show. Traders will be notified in advance where to locate food banks on site, and which items can be donated.
Any specific site rules provided for an event must be adhered to, and if differing would take precedence over anything listed above.
3. POLICY AT OUR EVENTS
As well as requiring all traders to follow guidelines as above, we also implement the following procedures if we are operating the event ourselves, or are responsible for this aspect of a client event.
· Multi bin system to allow for separation of waste – determined by how waste can be collected by the Local Authority.
· To not use any single use plastic.
· To only use recyclable or compostable service ware (ie cups, plates, napkins).
· If we are operating a bar or other food/ drink offering, at an event, we follow the guidelines given to traders above.
4. REDUCING TRANSPORT IMPACT
Personal travel should be by public transport or shared vehicle. Single-person journeys by car or van should be avoided, and car passes will be kept to essential vehicles only. We encourage you to promote lift-shares within your organisation.
